Overview
Business Angels Deutschland e.V. (BAND) is the German federal association of business angels and business angel networks, based in Essen. It represents private early-stage investors towards policymakers and the public, runs training and exchange formats for angels, and organises the Deutscher Business Angels Tag (German Business Angel Day), its main annual event. On its website BAND reports around 3,500 direct and indirect members and more than 40 business angel networks and clubs. In earlier records, including the federal Gründerplattform, the association appears under its former name Business Angels Netzwerk Deutschland e.V.

According to the founder portal für-gründer.de, BAND was founded on 25 August 1998, initially based in Berlin, and moved to Essen in 2001; the same source names the federal research ministry, KfW, the German savings banks association, Deutsche Börse and Investitionsbank Berlin among its founding supporters, and states that BAND was a founding member of the European Business Angels Network (EBAN) in 1999. BAND's own website describes it as the federal association and "the voice of early-stage investors", committed to building a business angel culture in Germany and to strengthening the wider early-stage investment market. The Gründerplattform of the federal government describes BAND as the association of business angels and their networks and lists its activities: qualification events under the BANDakademie name, practical resources including standard contract templates from the German Standards Setting Institute (GESSI), the BANDexpertforum, a standard one-page form (BAND One Pager) that startups can submit for forwarding to members, the Women Angels Mission campaign for more female business angels, and surveys such as the Business Angels Panel. BAND's main event is the Deutscher Business Angels Tag. BAND calls it the most important annual event of the German business angel scene; the Gründerplattform calls it Germany's largest congress of the informal equity market. The 2024 edition took place in Mainz from 23 to 25 November 2024, with the second day hosted by Mainz University of Applied Sciences, according to the university. The 2026 edition is scheduled for 6 and 7 November 2026 in Hannover. BAND also runs the annual Business Angel of the Year award and announced its 2026 finalists on 16 September 2026.

In Germany, angel investors often provide the first outside capital before institutional seed funds, and they frequently invest alongside public programmes. BAND gives this fragmented group a single representative and a set of shared standards, from training to contract templates. Its member base, which für-gründer.de describes as including most regional business angel networks as well as individual angels, family offices, incubators and crowdinvesting platforms, makes it a hub for early-stage deal flow across German regions.
