Entity Profile
Overview
Delivery Hero SE is a Berlin-headquartered online food-delivery and quick-commerce group that operates consumer brands including foodpanda, Glovo, talabat, PedidosYa and Baemin across roughly 70 markets in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Its shares have traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under the ticker DHER since 2017.
Why this entity matters
Delivery Hero is the largest company the Berlin consumer-internet scene has produced and the anchor of the German-speaking region's food-delivery and quick-commerce cluster. Its trajectory — rapid roll-up of national marketplaces, a large flotation, index membership, and then a deliberate narrowing of its footprint — is the clearest available case study of what happens to a European platform business after hypergrowth. For a DACH audience it is also the paradox company: a Berlin-listed global delivery group that no longer runs a delivery business in its home market.
Company or institutional background
Delivery Hero Holding was founded in Berlin in May 2011 by Niklas Östberg, Kolja Hebenstreit, Markus Fuhrmann and Lukasz Gadowski. It acquired the Turkish marketplace Yemeksepeti in 2015, the Asian platform foodpanda in 2016, and Woowa Brothers, operator of South Korea's Baemin, in 2021. It went public on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on 30 June 2017, raising close to one billion euros. Delivery Hero joined the DAX in August 2020 and moved to the MDAX in June 2022. It took sole control of the Spanish platform Glovo in July 2022. The group sold its German operations to Takeaway.com in 2018, briefly returned to the German market in 2021 under the foodpanda brand and withdrew again in December of that year. For 2024 it reported revenue of 12.8 billion euros and roughly 42,700 employees.
Role in the DACH startup and technology ecosystem
Within the DACH ecosystem Delivery Hero is the reference point for the quick-commerce wave that produced Gorillas and Flink in Berlin, both of which competed for the same rider networks, dark-store real estate and late-stage capital. Its capital history — early backing from Team Europe, HV Capital and Rocket Internet, later large positions held by Naspers and Prosus — makes it a useful map of how European growth capital was assembled in the 2010s.
Selected relationships and affiliations
Delivery Hero holds Glovo, foodpanda, PedidosYa, Baemin and a majority position in the Dubai-listed talabat. Prosus, part of the Naspers group, has been its largest shareholder. In July 2026 the company entered into a business combination agreement with Uber, which launched a voluntary public takeover offer of 41.50 euros per share, valuing Delivery Hero at about 13.0 billion euros on a fully diluted basis; Prosus committed its holding of just under 17 per cent, and both boards said they intend to recommend the offer, with completion expected in 2027 subject to customary conditions. In May 2026 the company announced that co-founder and chief executive Niklas Östberg will step down by 31 March 2027.
Startuprad.io relevance
Delivery Hero recurs in Startuprad.io's DACH coverage as the anchor of the Berlin food-delivery and quick-commerce cluster alongside Gorillas and Flink, and as a live case in the European scale-up debate: a company that reached global scale from Berlin and is now the subject of a US-led consolidation move.
