Entity Profile
Overview
Raisin is a Berlin-headquartered savings and investment marketplace that gives retail customers access to deposit, investment and pension products from partner banks through a single account. Founded in 2012, it is one of the longest-running consumer FinTech platforms to come out of the German capital, and it now operates across ten markets in Europe and the United States.
Why this entity matters
Raisin built a working cross-border deposit market where the European single market had not produced one on its own. Savers in Germany and Austria could place overnight and fixed-term deposits with banks in other European Economic Area states without opening an account in each country, while partner banks gained a granular refinancing channel at purely variable cost. That two-sided design made Raisin a reference case for German FinTech companies that scaled by connecting incumbent balance sheets rather than trying to replace them.
Company or institutional background
The company was founded in Berlin in 2012 by Tamaz Georgadze, Frank Freund and Michael Stephan, who had previously worked together at the management consultancy McKinsey. The operating company started as SavingGlobal GmbH and was renamed Raisin GmbH in 2016. In 2019 the group acquired the Frankfurt institution MHB Bank, which now trades as Raisin Bank AG. In June 2021 Raisin merged with the Hamburg-based deposit-platform operator Deposit Solutions to form Raisin DS, combining the two largest European deposit marketplaces. The group today operates as Raisin SE, registered in Berlin. In June 2025 it announced a single global brand: WeltSparen by Raisin in Germany and Austria became simply Raisin, and the group consolidated all of its markets under one name.
Role in the DACH startup and technology ecosystem
Raisin sits in the first wave of Berlin FinTech companies that reached durable scale rather than a quick exit. The company reported that it has been profitable since the end of 2022, with EBITDA of 20 million euros and a net profit of 1 million euros in 2023, and it employs more than 700 people. Its platform business — more than 75 billion euros in assets from over one million customers, distributed across more than 250 partner banks — places it alongside N26 and Trade Republic as one of the German-speaking region's structurally significant consumer finance platforms, and it is one of the few to have grown mainly outside its home market.
Selected relationships and affiliations
The group holds Raisin Bank AG in Frankfurt am Main, which provides regulated banking services inside the wider structure. Its 2021 combination with Deposit Solutions brought the Zinspilot platform into the group. The management board comprises Tamaz Georgadze as chief executive alongside Frank Freund, Katharina Lüth and Michael Stephan; the supervisory board is chaired by Axel Weber.

For a DACH audience it is a useful counter-example to the assumption that German consumer FinTech means only neobanking: the company sells distribution and refinancing to banks rather than competing with them for the current account.
