Entity Profile
Overview
Solytic is a Berlin-based software company that provides monitoring for photovoltaic (PV) installations. Its platform collects real-time performance data from solar systems regardless of inverter or module manufacturer, flags faults and underperformance, and helps owners and operators manage a portfolio of plants in one place. According to pv-tech and tech.eu, the company was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Berlin. Johannes Burgard is named as co-founder and CEO, and pv-tech's 2020 report also names Konrad Perenyi as co-founder and managing director.
The company's website describes hardware-independent PV monitoring software compatible with more than 40 manufacturers, a white-label offering for companies that want to provide monitoring under their own brand, and a control-room service in which Solytic watches client sites around the clock. In October 2024 the company was acquired by S.E.E. Servicegesellschaft Erneuerbare Energien, a provider of security solutions and services for PV and storage systems.
Why this entity matters
Solar capacity in Germany is dominated numerically by small and mid-sized installations on roofs and commercial buildings rather than by large solar parks. Each of these systems needs monitoring to find faults early, and the market for that software is fragmented by inverter brand. Solytic matters because it targeted the decentralized part of the market, which in the words of its CEO in a Startuprad.io interview is 99 percent of the overall market, with a manufacturer-independent platform.
It is also a case study in how energy-transition software is financed and consolidated in DACH. Vattenfall invested 3 million euros in late-seed financing in 2018 (pv-magazine; Solarserver) and led a Series A in 2020 (pv-tech), the energy company EWE took part, and a March 2022 round of 2 million euros was led by EWE and the Polish fund SpeedUp Energy Innovation (tech.eu). The 2024 acquisition by S.E.E. shows incumbents in solar services buying monitoring capabilities.
Company or institutional background
Solytic was founded in Berlin in 2017. In February 2020, pv-tech reported a Series A led by Vattenfall with EWE and several angel investors, in what the company called a medium seven-digit sum, and a goal of growing from about 100,000 monitored systems to one million within three years. In March 2022, tech.eu reported that the platform monitored close to 200,000 distributed PV installations with more than 50 terabytes of data, that customers included Kostal and Vaillant, and that the company planned to enter Poland and Western Europe.
TaiyangNews carried a headline in August 2022 that the Steag Group had picked up a stake in Solytic; the article gives no terms and the item is not independently verified here. In May 2023 the company launched the solarOS product with the Kwest initiative in the German solar market, according to its website.
On 17 October 2024 Solarserver reported that S.E.E. had acquired Solytic with terms undisclosed, extending its PV Secure brand portfolio with digital monitoring and optimization. S.E.E. said existing customers would be informed of relevant changes and that operations would stay unchanged for them. The company website now cites more than 250,000 supervised installations, 2.6 GWp of total capacity and more than 150 customers; these are company-reported figures.
Role in the ecosystem
Solytic operates in the software layer of the solar industry, between equipment makers such as inverter manufacturers, installers and service companies, and the owners of PV systems. Its hardware-independent approach lets it work across brands, and its white-label offering lets other businesses embed monitoring in their own services. In the energy transition, this kind of operations software extends the value of installed capacity by raising yield and lowering maintenance cost.
Within the DACH ecosystem Solytic is one of several Berlin energy-software startups backed by utilities, and the ownership by S.E.E. places it in a service and security group for photovoltaic and storage systems. The company's experience with virtual power plants and integration of heat pumps is cited by S.E.E. as a reason for the acquisition.
Selected relationships and affiliations
Publicly reported relationships include the founders Johannes Burgard and Konrad Perenyi; the investors Vattenfall and EWE, along with the Polish fund SpeedUp Energy Innovation, powered by PGE Ventures; a reported Steag Group stake; customers Kostal and Vaillant named by tech.eu; the solarOS partner initiative Kwest; and S.E.E. Servicegesellschaft Erneuerbare Energien as owner since October 2024. Hardy Narjes is named by Solarserver as managing director of S.E.E. The relationships are listed as reported by third-party outlets and the company and are not a verified cap table.
Startuprad.io relevance
Startuprad.io interviewed Johannes Burgard, founder and CEO of Solytic, in a Scaleup Founder Interview for the German, Austrian and Swiss startup scene. The conversation covers why small solar installations are inefficient to run, how the platform serves everything except large solar parks, and his path from engineering studies and work at Airbus to entrepreneurship. The article first appeared on Startuprad.io's earlier Medium publication and was moved to the current website when it relaunched in summer 2024. The company also appears in the DACH startup news summer 2024 roundup.
Public source context
This record draws on Solytic's website https://solytic.com , pv-tech and pv-magazine reporting on the 2018 and 2020 financing, tech.eu coverage of the March 2022 round, Solarserver's report on the 2024 acquisition, a TaiyangNews headline about the Steag stake, and Startuprad.io's own interview. Scale figures such as installations and gigawatt-peak capacity are company-reported and differ between dates. Konrad Perenyi's role rests on one source, and the Steag stake rests on a headline only; both are marked as not independently verified.
